
ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet is considering the import of banned GMO soybeans.
happened Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain in his address to the meeting said that currently, seeds are not being used in Pakistan except cotton. GM genetically modified organism has many advantages but it also has many disadvantages. The issue of GMO soybean production was considered in the cabinet. According to the Ministry of Food Security, there is no restriction on the import of GMO soybeans. The Ministry of Climate Change has some reservations about this and the processing of GMO soybeans.
The federal minister further said that a committee will be formed in this regard in the cabinet which will consult with the Ministry of Climate Change and other stakeholders. A question also arises as to why the United Nations banned it. We have to consider all the motivations and make a decision.
