Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, the former Chief Minister of Punjab, expressed his thoughts informally to journalists at the Anti-Terrorism Court. He emphasized that the upcoming election will hinge on the symbol of the bat, asserting that those who had previously departed from PTI would eventually return.
He criticized the current inflation surge, attributing it to the Sharif family. He highlighted concerns about the administration’s involvement in seeking votes and urged the Election Commission to intervene. Elahi pointed out instances in various regions, like Talagang, Attock, Fateh Jang, and Lahore, where he alleged that the police and administration were influencing voters. He expressed intent to take the matter to the Supreme Court if necessary, seeking justice and fair play.
Regarding the election schedule, Elahi stressed that it couldn’t be altered now, anticipating the emergence of an election-centric atmosphere. He clarified misconceptions about the IMF’s visit to Adiala Jail and reaffirmed his commitment to contesting elections under the bat sign, urging PTI supporters not to abandon the party. He also urged the Chief Election Commissioner to grant them their rights to hold rallies and compete fairly in the election.
Elahi highlighted internal differences between PML-N and the People’s Party, considering them internal matters. He referenced Australia’s fair play in cricket as an analogy, emphasizing the need for a fair and unbiased election. Regarding Khawar Manika’s disclosures, he felt it was ill-timed and should have been addressed when the PTI chairman held the position of Prime Minister. He emphasized their determination to continue campaigning and suggested having a lawyer as a backup candidate for those hesitant due to health concerns.
