Former Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervez Elahi has been implicated in three cases under the Terrorism Act across three police stations in the Taxila circle, as per reports from Rawalpindi. Presently detained in Adiala Jail on charges including anti-corruption, Elahi’s legal challenges appear to be escalating.
According to correspondence from Rawalpindi Police, Elahi is named in Case No. 940 dated May 9, 2023, under the Terrorism Act and other statutes at three Taxila Circle police stations. Additionally, he is mentioned in Case No. 948 dated May 11, 2023, at Taxila Police Station, and Case No. 744 dated May 10, 2023, at Sadar Wah Police Station. Authorities are actively seeking his apprehension.
Similarly, former Provincial Minister of Law and Local Government Bisharat Raja is highlighted in a separate report. Raja is identified as a wanted suspect in a case filed under terrorism and other laws at Arey Bazar Rawalpindi Police Station, as well as in Case No. 836/23 under different statutes at Cantt Police Station. Efforts are underway to execute his arrest warrants through ongoing raids.
It’s noteworthy that while Chaudhry Pervez Elahi has been enduring incarceration for months, Bisharat Raja had previously expressed confidence in his release following the resolution of the high-profile Aray Bazar case. However, Raja himself is now sought after in that case, alongside being implicated in the Thana Cantt case.
Efforts to contact SP Pothohar Nasir Nawaz for clarification on the situation were unsuccessful.
