Islamabad: The PDM (Pakistan Democratic Movement) parties have deferred the decision on the appointment of a caretaker prime minister to Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
A dinner was hosted by Shahbaz Sharif at the Prime Minister’s House in honor of the coalition parties. Leaders from various coalition parties, including Khawaja Asif and Ishaq Dar, attended the event. PDM chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Asad Mehmood, Aslam Bhutani, Amir Haider Hoti, Aftab Sherpao, Mohsin Dawar, and other leaders were also present.
During the political leaders’ meeting, Shahbaz Sharif briefed the allies on the consultation process regarding the caretaker prime minister. The allies expressed their confidence in Shahbaz Sharif and entrusted him with the decision of appointing the Caretaker Prime Minister.
The coalition party leaders appreciated the unity maintained over sixteen months and acknowledged Shahbaz Sharif’s consultative approach to decision-making. Sources indicate that the idea of selecting the caretaker prime minister from a smaller province was discussed during the meeting.
The Prime Minister informed the coalition party leaders that he would be meeting with the opposition leader later to discuss the appointment of the caretaker prime minister, raising anticipation for positive outcomes.
In an earlier conversation with journalists, Shahbaz Sharif expressed his surprise at the urgency displayed by the State President’s letter. He suggested that the President review the Constitution, which allows for an 8-day timeframe to appoint the Caretaker Prime Minister. Shahbaz Sharif and Opposition Leader Raja Riaz had received a letter from the President, urging them to name the caretaker prime minister by August 12.
