In Islamabad, Pervaiz Elahi, the President of Tehreek-e-Insaf and former Punjab Chief Minister, suggested that all politicians should be required to provide a security bond before participating in elections given the current situation. He shared this opinion during an informal conversation with journalists before his appearance in the Anti-Terrorism Court. Elahi emphasized the importance of holding timely elections to prevent the political system from stagnating.
He also mentioned ongoing backdoor talks with PTI, indicating that Chaudhry Shujaat would have further discussions. In response to a question about Bilawal’s statement regarding Sheikh Rasheed and himself, Elahi humorously suggested letting Bilawal celebrate his birthday.
Regarding the changing date of Nawaz Sharif’s return, Elahi quipped that Nawaz Sharif himself seemed to be changing.
In the courtroom, during Chairman PTI’s appearance, the case related to vandalism was heard, and Pervaiz Elahi, who had completed his judicial remand, was produced. The court approved his bail in the case filed at the CTD police station. Elahi’s request for a family meeting was met with the judge’s question about the need for bail if approved. Elahi’s lawyer, Sardar Abdul Razaq, clarified that he was also on judicial remand in an anti-corruption case and had the freedom to present evidence.
During the proceedings, Pervaiz Elahi complained about his poor health and the lack of fresh air in his cell due to a wall outside. The judge inquired about the person referred to as “stranger” and learned that it was related to his judicial remand in the anti-corruption case in Lahore. The lawyer mentioned a bail application filed in that case and requested a later date for the hearing. The judge responded by saying that they typically schedule dates after 40 days and adjourned the hearing until October 13.
