The Peshawar High Court has prolonged the order preventing the swearing-in on specific seats of the Sunni Ittehad Council. Headed by Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim, a larger bench of five members reviewed the petition filed by the Sunni Ittehad Council regarding certain seats.
During the hearing, Babar Awan Advocate contended that despite having 93 seats, his party hadn’t been allocated reserved seats, whereas a party with only one assembly member in the province was granted two reserved seats. He criticized the Election Commission for favoring certain parties in allocating reserved seats.
Additional Attorney General Sanaullah requested more time for case preparation, citing the ongoing presidential election and the absence of the Attorney General, who was attending a Supreme Court session. PTI lawyer Qazi Anwar Advocate mentioned the imminent appointment of a new Advocate General who would handle the case.
Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim emphasized the necessity for the Attorney General’s presence in the next hearing and extended the injunction until Wednesday. The court scheduled the next hearing for March 13, adjourning it for a week.
