In a recent session addressing the missing persons case, the court expressed grave concern over the state’s failure to safeguard its citizens.
Presided over by Justice Ejaz Anwar of the Peshawar High Court, the hearing focused on the disappearance of members of the Alkozi family from Hayatabad. Present at the hearing were lawyers Mohammad Nader Shah and Advocate General Shah Faisal Atman Khel, representing the case of four abducted brothers from Hayatabad.
During the proceedings, the court directed the submission of a progress report from the police committee at the next hearing. Justice Ejaz Anwar lamented that when the state fails in its duty, citizens are left in distress with nowhere to turn. He criticized the police and other authorities, suggesting complicity in abductions and stating that even rapists appeared to operate with impunity.
The Advocate General informed the court about the ongoing police investigation, but Justice Ejaz Anwar expressed skepticism, highlighting past failures to address such issues solely through committees. He emphasized the importance of adhering to constitutional principles and ensuring that government agencies operate within legal frameworks.
Further revelations surfaced during the session, with Barrister Owais Babar revealing personal involvement in the case, alleging that his clients were kidnapped by masked men under police supervision. Justice Ejaz Anwar underscored the plight of ordinary citizens, questioning where they should seek recourse when even servants are targeted by the state.
The court adjourned the hearing until June 10th, reflecting the gravity of the situation and the need for comprehensive action to address the rampant issue of disappearances and lack of citizen protection.
