President Dr. Arif Alvi has approved the resignation of Supreme Court Justice Syed Mazahir Ali Akbar Naqvi. The President’s decision follows the advice of the Prime Minister, in accordance with Article 179 of the Constitution. With Justice Naqvi stepping down, two judicial positions in the Supreme Court are now vacant.
Justice Mazahir Ali Akbar Naqvi, in his resignation statement, expressed his gratitude for the honor of serving as a judge in both the Lahore High Court and the Supreme Court. However, citing circumstances that are publicly known and documented, he deemed it impossible to continue in his role as a Supreme Court judge, leading to his decision to resign.
It’s worth noting that, with this voluntary resignation, Justice Mazahir Naqvi may be eligible for pension and other associated privileges. Had the Supreme Judicial Council removed him for misconduct, he would have forfeited such benefits.
