Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has faced a setback in the upcoming general elections, losing minority seats in both national and provincial assemblies following the allocation of women seats.
The Election Commission of Pakistan recently unveiled the final lists of minority candidates for the 2024 general elections. Notably, PTI has been excluded from contention for specific seats in both the national and provincial assemblies.
The Election Commission reviewed and approved the nomination papers of 37 candidates vying for 10 specific seats in the National Assembly. However, PTI’s minority candidates did not make it onto the list. Despite PTI submitting a list of minority candidates to the Election Commission, the latter nullified PTI’s intra-party elections. Subsequently, the Supreme Court of Pakistan upheld the Election Commission’s decision, directing the withdrawal of PTI’s election symbol. This resulted in PTI losing reserved seats not only for women but also for minorities.
