Islamabad: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has taken its concerns about the delay in general elections to the Supreme Court.
In a petition submitted by Umar Ayub, the Secretary General of PTI, to the Supreme Court, they are urging the court to direct the President to announce the election date within 90 days, and to have the Election Commission establish the schedule for the upcoming general elections.
The petition specifically aims to have the Council of Common Interests’ decision on August 5 deemed unlawful, along with the 2023 census results from the Bureau of Statistics.
PTI’s petition also highlights recent changes in the Election Act, which have led to the declaration of the Election Commission’s unconstitutionality. Additionally, it calls for the governors of the four provinces to be given a 90-day period to determine the election date for their respective provinces.
