Lahore: In response to the Election Commission’s announcement of Imran Khan ‘s five-year disqualification, Tehreek-e-Insaf has issued a statement expressing its rejection of the notification. The party has stated its intention to challenge this decision in the Supreme Court.
The party’s spokesperson has conveyed that the Election Commission’s notification is perceived as an unnatural and unlawful interference in political affairs, allegedly driven by concealed agendas. They further assert that the move to invoke the “minus one” formula, based on what they deem a prejudiced ruling from a contentious trial, is vehemently opposed by the public.
Accusing the Election Commission of playing a central role in a strategy to delay elections, undermine democratic processes, and veer away from constitutional norms, the spokesperson affirms their stance. The spokesperson also highlights an earlier Supreme Court ruling on April 4 that, according to them, reveals attempts to manipulate the Election Commission’s role, prompting a call for the Supreme Judicial Council to address the pending reference against the Chief Election Commissioner and render a verdict.
