The Election Tribunal at Sindh High Court granted permission to various political figures to participate in upcoming elections after hearing appeals against their initial disqualifications.
Leaders like Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Zain Qureshi, Haleem Adil Shaikh, Arsalan Khalid, and Akhtar Baig from different constituencies had their candidacies reviewed. The Tribunal allowed Shah Mahmood Qureshi and others from PTI to contest, while imposing certain conditions on Akhtar Baig from the People’s Party, pending submission of an affidavit clarifying dual citizenship status.
For NA-214, both Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Zain Qureshi were approved after the Tribunal overturned the Returning Officer’s rejection due to outstanding dues documentation. Similarly, Haleem Adil Shaikh’s candidacy for NA-238 was reinstated following the Tribunal’s decision to overturn the initial rejection by the Returning Officer.
Mirza Akhtar Baig’s candidacy for NA-241 was conditionally allowed pending submission of an affidavit confirming the end of any dual citizenship. The Tribunal stressed that a false affidavit would nullify victory post-election.
Lastly, Arsalan Khalid from PTI, contested from NA-241, had his appeal approved by the Tribunal, allowing him to participate in the upcoming elections. The Election Commission’s lawyer had argued that the documents were initially rejected due to a lack of proper case demonstration.
