Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has resolved to abstain from participating in the election of Chairman and Deputy Chairman Senate.
Sources indicate that PTI’s political committee and core committee have reached a decision to contest the legality of electing the Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Senate.
As per PTI Core Committee insiders, they assert that the Senate’s composition is incomplete, and electing a Chairman without filling the seats for senators in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa violates the constitutional framework. They argue that the upper house’s functionality is restricted to a single department, marking a significant departure from past democratic practices. This marks the first instance in the democratic history where the Senate finds itself inactive.
