The Indian court rejected the appeal against the sentence of disqualification handed down in the defamation case of the opposition leader Rahul Gandhi.
According to Indian media, the opposition leader Rahul Gandhi was declared ineligible for any public office for making fun of Modi’s name.
Rahul Gandhi was also sentenced to two years in prison but was released on bail. He also lost his parliamentary seat after the disqualification.
It should be noted that legislators sentenced to 2 years or more under this law are automatically disqualified.
Rahul Gandhi also has to head his party’s election campaign. Hence, he filed an appeal against the disqualification sentence which was rejected in the local court today.
