ISLAMABAD: The authorities at Adiala Jail have requested to postpone the hearing of the 190 million pound reference until next week due to security concerns.
In a letter addressed to the Accountability Court in Islamabad, the Superintendent of Adiala Jail highlighted that the facility is the most sensitive in the province, housing over 7,000 prisoners. These include individuals involved in serious crimes such as terrorism, as well as high-profile political prisoners.
The letter further mentioned that the Punjab government’s Home Department has received intelligence reports indicating potential plans by banned organizations to attack various jails, including those in Mianwali, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rawalpindi, and Attock. To bolster security, a mock exercise was conducted in cooperation with law enforcement agencies. Additionally, security clearance for residents of the areas adjacent to the jail is underway. Given these extensive security measures, the request was made to delay the hearing until next week.
