In a recent development, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi was detained by the police in connection with 12 additional cases from May 9.
During a hearing presided over by Duty Additional and Sessions Judge Syed Jahangir Ali at the Judicial Complex, Shah Mehmood appeared in handcuffs as the police brought him in.
The prosecution team pushed for a 30-day physical remand, citing allegations that Qureshi had encouraged public protests on May 9. However, Lawyer Safai contested this, asserting that there was no basis for physical remand. Safai argued that the case seemed to be motivated by revenge and pointed out that Qureshi’s name wasn’t even mentioned in the entire case file presented.
Adding to the complexity, SHOs from 7 police stations were present in court, detailing Qureshi’s involvement in 12 more cases, including incidents like the GHQ and Army Museum attacks, as well as the burning of a sensitive institution office and a Metro Bus Station. The request for physical remand was made in connection with all these cases, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive investigation.
Following the conclusion of arguments, the court opted to reserve its decision regarding Shah Mehmood Qureshi’s plea for physical remand.
