In Islamabad, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, the Vice Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has asserted that if he were guilty of betraying the country, he should face the gallows.
Speaking to the media at the Judicial Complex, the former Foreign Minister, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, emphasized that the idea of betraying his nation was inconceivable to him. He mentioned the presence of a gallows in the prison adjacent to his barracks and stated that if he were indeed found guilty of betrayal, he should be hanged.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi went on to describe his current circumstances, stating that he was enduring solitary confinement in Adiala Jail, unable to walk outside due to the presence of other inmates. He lamented the hardships his family was enduring, particularly his ailing wife and children, who were facing significant distress.
Regarding his involvement in the events of May 9, he maintained his innocence, explaining that he was not present as he was caring for his sick wife in Karachi.
Responding to questions, he addressed the speculation surrounding PTI chairmanship, affirming that the party’s chairman could not be replaced, and he criticized the dissemination of false information and misconceptions in this regard.
Shah Mehmood further mentioned his physical discomfort and ailing throat, underscoring the disparity in food provisions between himself and common prisoners. He revealed that he had met with his family the previous day, expressing both happiness and sadness at the sight of them visiting him in Adiala Jail.
