The Supreme Court has summoned former DGISI General (retd) Faiz Hameed in the Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui dismissal case.
This case, brought before a 5-member bench headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan, revolves around allegations made by Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui regarding his removal for a speech. The court probed whether these allegations were accurate and if they aimed at benefiting someone else, possibly influencing the 2018 elections.
Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui’s lawyer, Hamid Khan, affirmed the truth behind the allegations. The Chief Justice expressed concern about the gravity of these accusations, emphasizing the need to identify the actual beneficiary. The court stressed its impartial stance, refusing to be used for any party’s agenda.
Questions arose about the army’s independence and the individuals governing it. The court emphasized adherence to constitutional procedures and warned against using the court for personal or political goals. The judiciary’s role and past events, including instances related to Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz, were also deliberated upon during the proceedings.
The court demanded clarity on the purpose of implicating certain individuals and underscored the need for substantive evidence. It refused to entertain presumptive allegations and emphasized the distinction between political and judicial jurisdictions.
The Attorney General was summoned to further address the matter. The court clarified that if the issue primarily concerns pension benefits, it should be resolved through appropriate channels without unnecessarily involving the court.
Throughout the proceedings, the court emphasized the need for factual substantiation rather than speculative accusations. The next hearing was scheduled post-holidays, with instructions for filing amendment petitions within a week.
