The Islamabad High Court has levied a fine of 25 thousand rupees on the IG Islamabad for failing to respond to the request to remove Shireen Mazari’s name from the Exit Control List (ECL).
The court’s decision mandates that the IG must pay this fine to the petitioner, Shireen Mazari, before the upcoming hearing.
Initially, on August 2, the court had instructed the IG Islamabad to provide a response within a week. However, the response was not received by August 10. Subsequently, the court granted a one-week extension, but even by August 29, the response was not submitted.
In light of this, the court has chosen to impose a fine of 25 thousand rupees on the IG Islamabad for non-compliance with the court’s order. The court’s directive also requires the IG to initiate an inquiry to determine the reasons behind the failure to provide the response as directed by the court. The IG is then expected to take appropriate action based on the inquiry’s findings and submit the response within a two-week period.
Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri issued a written order spanning three pages, outlining the fine of 25,000 rupees on the IG Islamabad and mandating the submission of the response within a two-week timeframe.
