In a courtroom session at the Judicial Complex in Rawalpindi, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Vice Chairman, addressed allegations of police violence against him.
During the hearing overseen by Duty Additional and Sessions Judge Syed Jahangir Ali, the police brought Qureshi in handcuffs, which were removed upon entering the courtroom.
The prosecution team sought a 30-day physical remand, citing Qureshi’s alleged incitement of public protests on May 9. Qureshi countered these claims, asserting that he was falsely implicated. He described an altercation with SHO Jamal, stating that he was pushed, kicked, and denied medical assistance despite his deteriorating condition.
Qureshi further detailed being confined in a cold freezer room with dim lighting and disruptive tactics aimed at depriving him of sleep. He vehemently denied involvement in the May 9 incident, affirming he was in Karachi, not Rawalpindi or Punjab, on that day. Additionally, he hinted at the support of a significant government figure who could attest to his innocence.
Lawyer Safai argued for Qureshi’s discharge, contending that the lack of justification for physical remand was evident in the absence of Qureshi’s name in the presented challan.
Following the completion of arguments, the court reserved its decision on Qureshi’s plea for physical remand.
