Caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab, Mohsin Naqvi, has confirmed the arrest of the main suspects involved in the Jaranwala incident by the Counter-Terrorism Force (CTD). Naqvi expressed gratitude for the timely action of the Chief Secretary Punjab and IG, attributing the swift arrests to the unwavering concern of the Prime Minister.
The suspects, identified as Umir Saleem (alias Raja) and Umar Suleiman (alias Roki), both brothers, were apprehended by the police. Umir Saleem works in a government institution, while Umar Suleiman is employed in the private sector. After the incident, the accused destroyed their SIM cards and fled the area.
In a video message, IG Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, acknowledged the public’s justified anger and emphasized the importance of protecting minorities. He praised scholars for maintaining peace and condemned the violence against religious sites. Anwar highlighted the use of artificial intelligence to aid in arrests, and over 125 individuals have been detained through a combination of human intelligence and technological methods.
Anwar extended gratitude to the regional peace committee, religious leaders, and Islamic scholars who supported the police’s efforts. He pledged to swiftly bring those responsible for the desecration and violence to justice. The IG reaffirmed the commitment to restoring damaged properties and maintaining inter-faith harmony.
Bishop Nadeem Kamran, following an inter-faith harmony meeting, vowed to work for peace and order while condemning the tragic incident. More than 128 individuals, including the suspect who announced the vandalism from the mosque, have been arrested in connection with the attacks.
