New Delhi: Prominent Indian actress and member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Smriti Irani, expressed strong dissent over Rahul Gandhi ‘s recent “flying kiss” gesture within the Parliament. The ruling party’s lawmakers also collectively voiced their objections by passing a resolution against the opposition leader.
As reported by Indian media, Smriti Irani, who serves both as a federal minister and a Member of Parliament for the BJP, launched a scathing critique of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during her parliamentary address.
Although not directly naming Rahul Gandhi, Smriti Irani, a well-known television personality, condemned the act of throwing ‘flying kisses’ within the Parliament. She highlighted that such actions were inappropriate and disrespectful, particularly in the presence of women Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs).
Prior to this, Smriti Irani had already alleged that Rahul Gandhi had performed a flying kiss as he left the Parliament premises following his speech on a no-confidence motion.
Smriti Irani emphasized that the recent reinstatement of an MLA, which occurred the previous day, lacked principles and decorum. She underscored that such behavior was unprecedented within the parliamentary setting, where the focus should be on upholding the dignity of all individuals.
Subsequently, female BJP MLAs submitted a formal resolution to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, addressing their concerns about Rahul Gandhi’s flying kiss gesture.
It’s pertinent to note that the Congress party’s Gaurav Gogoi had presented a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Narendra Modi the previous day. The motion is currently under debate and is scheduled for a response on the upcoming Thursday.
