Madrid: Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has declared that establishing an independent Palestinian state is essential for achieving peace in the Middle East. In line with this belief, Spain has officially recognized Palestine as a separate state.
According to the World News Agency, Spain announced its recognition of Palestine last week, joining Norway and Switzerland. However, this decision awaited parliamentary approval.
The Spanish government has now approved the recognition of Palestine as an independent state, as announced by Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez during a media interview. Sanchez emphasized that recognizing the Palestinian state is not only an act of historical justice but also a step that, alongside similar initiatives by other European countries, will foster peace in the Middle East.
The Prime Minister stressed that the creation of a Palestinian state, coexisting with Israel, is the sole path to lasting peace in the region.
Following Spain’s recognition, Norway and Ireland have also acknowledged Palestine, and Belgium has expressed its intention to do the same.
