In Islamabad, the Supreme Court of Pakistan has released the translated version in Urdu of its concise statement regarding the Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto reference hearing.
Notably, yesterday, the Supreme Court conducted a hearing concerning the Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Presidential Reference. During this session, the Supreme Court emphasized that Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was deprived of the right to a fair trial.
The Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto reference case was brought before a larger bench consisting of nine members, presided over by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faiz Isa. Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa delivered the opinion of the Supreme Court.
During the proceedings, the Chief Justice stressed that all judges had reached a unanimous decision, demonstrating impartiality in their judgment. He emphasized the importance of self-accountability within the judiciary, acknowledging that progress cannot be made without recognizing past errors. Notably, the trial of former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto at the Lahore High Court occurred during the tenure of military dictator Zia-ul-Haq.
