Islamabad: Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi, the Vice Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, has addressed a letter to the caretaker Prime Minister, Anwar Haq Kakar, urging for elections to be held within the next 90 days.
In his communication to the caretaker Prime Minister, Shah Mehmood Qureshi expressed concerns about the formation of the Core Committee and highlighted the critical state of the country’s constitutional integrity. He emphasized that a series of strategies have been employed in attempts to salvage the situation, resulting in considerable harm to the nation’s foundational principles.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi stated that previous governing authorities had misused state institutions to hinder Tehreek-e-Insaf’s participation in the electoral process. This misuse has not only cast a negative light on the administrative and judicial systems of the nation but has also led to the deprivation of fundamental rights for Imran Khan in accordance with constitutional and penal regulations.
He emphasized that a significant number of over 10,000 Tehreek-e-Insaf members have been detained, and there is an alarming disregard for the judiciary’s constitutional mandates. He called for immediate action to restore the country’s adherence to constitutional norms and legal procedures.
Citing the constitutional provision necessitating elections within 90 days in case of premature dissolution of the assembly, Shah Mehmood Qureshi stressed the party’s unwavering demand for prompt and timely elections.
Regarding the matter of new electoral constituencies, Shah Mehmood Qureshi contested any potential attempts to delay elections under the pretext of delayed approval of census results by the Council of Common Interests. He expressed the party’s intention to challenge the Council of Common Interests’ decision in court, if necessary.
Highlighting the importance of fair competition among political parties, Shah Mehmood Qureshi underscored the necessity for an impartial electoral playing field. He assured the caretaker Prime Minister of their full cooperation in ensuring the successful execution of this significant endeavor.
