KARACHI: At its meeting next month, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) will make a final decision regarding the Asia Cup 2023 venue. Pakistan was supposed to host the Asia Cup in 2023, but after India refused to tour the country, citing their government's refusal, Pakistan's hosting of the event became uncertain. Although Jay Shah of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has repeatedly stated that India will not tour Pakistan, the ACC has not provided any official information regarding the tournament's relocation from Pakistan. On Saturday, the chairman of the PCB's management committee, Najam Sethi, was present at an emergency meeting of the ACC in Bahrain. The Asia Cup's future was also up for discussion, but no decision was made. "With regard to the upcoming Asia Cup in 2023, the ACC had a productive discussion. To ensure the tournament's success, the Board agreed to continue discussing operations, timelines, and other specifics. Following the meeting, an ACC statement stated, "An update on the matter would be taken on at the next ACC Executive Board meeting in March 2023." There is a possibility that the tournament will be moved to a neutral location if India does not agree to tour Pakistan for the event. The UAE and Qatar are being looked at as potential neutral tournament hosts. However, the PCB informed the ACC meeting that any actions taken after the tournament is relocated will require Pakistan's government's approval. "If you won’t play in Pakistan, we won’t play in India," sources claim Sethi told Shah. Due to the fact that the issues in the Asia Cup, World Cup, and Champions Trophy are the same, it appears that the impasse will be revisited in March when the ICC and ACC Executive Board meetings take place sequentially.
