In the case of the intra-party election of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Chairman PTI failed to appear before the Election Commission despite being summoned. This lack of cooperation resulted in no progress being made during the hearing. The Election Commission, led by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, postponed the hearing until Tuesday upon the request of PTI’s lawyer, Barrister Gohar Ali.
During the hearing, PTI’s lawyer refused to provide the record of the case, arguing that the intra-party elections were conducted before the party constitution was amended. However, the Election Commission pointed out that PTI Chairman had written to amend the constitution on June 8, 2022, and intra-party elections were supposed to be held on June 10, 2022.
The Election Commission had previously issued a notice to Chairman PTI regarding the intra-party election issue, warning that PTI might become ineligible to collect election symbols if the intra-party election was not held. Despite receiving reminder notices, PTI’s submission of the amended constitution was deemed insufficient by the Election Commission.
As a result of the Chairman’s failure to appear and provide adequate documentation, the hearing was adjourned, and the situation remains unresolved until further proceedings.
