Following the general elections, today marks the selection of Chief Ministers in Punjab and Sindh.
In Punjab, the contenders are Maryam Nawaz from the Muslim League (N) and Rana Aftab Ahmed from the Sunni Ittehad Council. Meanwhile, in Sindh, the competition is between Pakistan Peoples Party’s Murad Ali Shah and MQM-Pakistan’s Ali Sohariya. Ali Sohriya, who has previously served as a member of the Sindh Assembly and as the parliamentary leader of MQM in the assembly, is contesting for the second time.
For the position of Punjab’s Chief Minister, PML-N has nominated Maryam Nawaz, while Tehreek-e-Insaf has put forward Rana Aftab Ahmad Khan. Recently, Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan of the Muslim League (N) was elected as the Speaker of the Punjab Assembly, and Malik Zaheer Iqbal Chanar as the Deputy Speaker, both with significant majorities. Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan secured 224 votes, defeating his opponent Malik Ahmad Khan Bhachar of the Sunni Ittehad Council, who secured 96 votes.
