Karachi’s Accountability Court has dismissed a plea to contest the court’s jurisdiction in the corruption case involving 5.076 billion rupees within the Sindh Information Department, implicating former provincial minister Sharjeel Memon.
In a session held at the Karachi accountability court, proceedings continued for the corruption case involving 5.076 billion rupees in the Sindh Information Department, with appearances by Sharjeel Memon and other accused individuals.
The presiding judge declined the request to challenge the court’s jurisdiction based on recent amendments to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) legislation. The court noted that the application had lost its relevance in light of recent Supreme Court rulings concerning NAB amendments. The Supreme Court’s directive, received yesterday, holds precedence, and as the NAB amendments have been nullified, the Supreme Court’s order takes precedence. The trial for this case will resume from where it left off, with instructions to summon witnesses and proceed with the reference.
The court adjourned the hearing until October 5, instructing both witnesses and the accused to be present at the next hearing.
