Following the completion of just two seasons, Netflix cancelled the fantasy programme Warrior Nun because it did not receive sufficient viewership to warrant a third. Deadline has confirmed this. The series focused on Ava Silva, played by Ava Baptista, and was based on the comic book character Warrior Nun Areala, whom Ben Dunn originally developed. Following the implantation of an ancient artefact in her back, Silva is drawn into the realm of the Order of the Cruciform Sword, a sect of nuns who fight demons and other strong forces on Earth. Showrunner Simon Barry said that the Netflix executives were equally to blame for the reduced number of episodes after the show was terminated. Barry revealed the reduction was a corporate decision in an interview with the Be More Super Podcast. Because the Netflix demand wasn't a money issue, "we knew it was going to be eight in the writing room. It was Netflix changing all of their series to eight-episode seasons, or their studio shows, to be more precise—not the shows they purchase and broadcast but the ones they produce inside as a studio. Therefore, we were aware that Netflix had made this general change; yet, Warrior Nun was not singled out for punishment since we had been around long enough to see the change from 10 to 8 overall. Executive producer, showrunner, and creator of the television series was Simon Barry. Along with Amy Berg serving as consultant producer, Stephen Hegyes, David Hayter, and others executive produced the film. A co-executive producer was Terri Hughes Burton.
