In an undisclosed session at the Islamabad High Court, Advocate Imran Shafiq, representing Dr. Fawzia Siddiqui, has expressed concerns over withheld documents by the Foreign Office pertaining to Dr. Aafia Siddiqui. The closed-door hearing centered around Dr. Fawzia Siddiqui’s plea to meet her sister, Dr. Afia Siddiqui, assess her health, and facilitate her repatriation.
Following the session, Advocate Imran Shafiq addressed the media, highlighting the nationwide support for Dr. Afia Siddiqui and asserting that her quest for justice is encountering obstacles. He disclosed that the Foreign Office has not released specific documents despite repeated requests. The delay tactics involve correspondence between the Foreign Office, the Establishment Division, and other departments.
Advocate Imran Shafiq underlined that they sought access to documents detailing the Council’s meeting involving Dr. Afia Siddiqui. However, these documents were deemed sensitive and therefore withheld. The question of whether the Foreign Office can legitimately withhold these documents was raised.
He concluded by stating that once the injustices against Dr. Aafia Siddiqui are addressed, efforts will be made to repatriate her to her home country.
