The Lahore High Court has halted the enforcement of fines and show-cause notices imposed on the Home Secretary, IG Punjab, and IG Jails by a subordinate court for their failure to produce Parvez Elahi despite a court order.

This decision came after the Lahore High Court heard the appeal filed by the Punjab government against the fines and penalties imposed on the officials in the money laundering case involving Chaudhry Pervez Elahi. The subordinate court had ordered the withholding of salaries for the Home Secretary, IG Punjab, and IG Jail, and imposed a fine of 50 thousand rupees on each of them for their inability to produce Parvez Elahi in court.

During the appeal hearing, the government’s lawyer, Additional Advocate General Punjab Ghulam Sarwar Nahang, argued that Parvez Elahi was not brought before the banking court due to security concerns. The court had earlier fined the three officials 50,000 rupees each for transferring Parvez Elahi to Rawalpindi jail without permission and had ordered the stopping of their salaries.

In response to the appeal, the court decided to suspend the fines and show-cause notices, setting aside the order to stop the salaries of the officials. The court also accepted the plea that the execution of the show cause notice given to the officials should be suspended since the FIA had found incomplete challan, which means the case had not been properly prepared and presented.
