The future of the national team’s white ball captain Babar Azam’s leadership also became uncertain.
The Pakistan star batsman’s future as captain is in jeopardy after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) decided not to appoint him as the captain for the upcoming Champions ODI Cup.
Reports have revealed that Pakistan may appoint a new white-ball captain for the upcoming tour of Australia, with speculations rife that current vice-captain Mohammad Rizwan is likely to be named the new captain.
Whiteball head coach Gary Kirsten reportedly discussed the captaincy issue with Babar Azam at the start of this year and after the T20 World Cup.
Sources say that if Rizwan is nominated as the captain, then he can be entrusted with the captaincy in all three formats of the game.
