In Islamabad, the Senate Standing Committee on Human Rights has requested a meeting with Chairman PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf).
Under the leadership of Senator Waleed Iqbal, the Senate Standing Committee on Human Rights convened a meeting where they expressed the need to meet with PTI Chairman Imran Khan.
Senator Falknaz emphasized the importance of understanding the condition of PTI Chairman. Senator Mushahid Hussain pointed out that Parvez Elahi is also considered a political prisoner, and they believe that all political prisoners should be met. He mentioned a previous meeting with Senator Azam Swati.
The committee’s chairman assured that they will take lawful steps to arrange the meeting, considering the senators’ request.
During the session, committee members voiced their displeasure with the Secretary of Human Rights regarding a church incident and highlighted that this wasn’t the first such incident in Pakistan. Senator Irfan Siddiqui noted that the media had also become aware of the church incident, and he stressed the importance of the media focusing on substantial issues instead of trivial matters to keep the nation informed.
Senator Tahir Bizenjo emphasized the need for law enforcement agencies to play an active role, advocating for reforms in Pakistan.
The Caretaker Federal Human Rights Minister expressed concern over the Jaranwala incident and stated that the victims should not return to their homes until they are properly rehabilitated, emphasizing the significance of Pakistan’s extensive Ministry of Human Rights.
The meeting concluded with a recitation of Fatiha Khwani in memory of Senator Rana Maqbool Ahmed, followed by the adjournment of the committee’s session.
