The United States has expelled 21 Indian students who arrived with counterfeit visas. International reports indicate that operations targeting Indian students took place at the airports in Atlanta, Chicago, and San Francisco. These students have been banned from reentering the US for a duration of 5 years, as decreed by US immigration authorities.
These 21 Indian students attempted to gain entry to the US using fabricated visas and university acceptance letters. The majority of these students hail from the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Reports suggest that the deported Indian students underwent extensive questioning by US immigration officials, which lasted for several hours. Additionally, their mobile phones and WhatsApp correspondence were subjected to scrutiny. India is currently under global scrutiny due to a significant number of instances involving counterfeit visas and falsified documents.
In the year 2018, the US deported 129 Indian students, while Canada expelled 150 in 2019, all due to fraudulent visas. In 2019, the US apprehended and convicted 130 Indian nationals for possessing counterfeit visas. Furthermore, in 2022 and the present year, Canada has deported 700 Indian students due to fraudulent admission letters.
