Judges from both the Supreme Court and the Lahore High Court have recently been targeted by threatening letters, as reported by DIG Operations Shahzad Bukhari during a media briefing at the Islamabad High Court.
It has come to light that four judges from the Supreme Court and three from the Lahore High Court, including senior justices Justice Shujaat Ali Khan, Justice Shahid Bilal Hasan, and Justice Alia Neelam, have been recipients of such alarming correspondence.
Upon receiving this information, law enforcement swiftly responded, with officers, including the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) team and DIG Operations Nasir Rizvi, reinforcing security measures at the Lahore High Court. The heightened security measures were promptly put into place to ensure the safety of the court and its occupants.
Initial investigations suggest that the threatening letters were delivered to the High Court via a private courier service, and an employee of the said company has since been apprehended for further questioning.
In Islamabad, it was previously reported that eight judges from the Islamabad High Court also received similarly ominous letters containing suspicious powder, indicating a wider concern within the judiciary.
