
KARACHI: The Sindh Local Government (Third Amendment) Bill 2023 has received approval from Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tesori.
The Bill encompasses modifications to the Local Government Act 2013.
As per the amendment, the term “inspector” will be included in sub-section 3 of section 132 of the Act. Inspectors designated under the sub-sections of section 136 will be granted the authority to levy fines of up to 50,000 rupees.
These inspectors will have the ability to initiate legal proceedings in the relevant court for cases involving repeated violations of the same offense by the same individual. The designated court will be empowered to impose fines of up to 500,000 rupees and sentences of up to three years’ imprisonment, or both.
It is mandated that cases under this Act must be resolved within a 30-day timeframe.
