Islamabad: Shehbaz Sharif, the former Prime Minister and President of the Pakistan Muslim League (N), has commented on the suspension of Imran Khan’s sentence in the Tosha Khana case.
He stated that Imran Khan’s sentence has been put on hold but not concluded.
In his statement, Shahbaz Sharif expressed concerns about the communication between the Chief Justice, who conveyed messages of “Good to see you” and “Wishing you good luck,” to the Islamabad High Court. He emphasized that the decision of the court should be a matter of worry for the justice system. He questioned what actions the lower court should take if such a distinct message is emanating from the Supreme Judiciary.
Shehbaz Sharif noted that a monitoring judge was initially appointed to ensure punishment for Nawaz Sharif, but the Chief Justice himself assumed the role of monitoring judge to intervene in favor of Imran Khan. He criticized this role of the justice system, deeming it a regrettable aspect of history. He asserted that a justice system that compromises fairness and distorts the balance of justice cannot be accepted.
Furthermore, Shahbaz Sharif added that the law appears feeble when confronted by those who wield influence, referring to individuals who evade accountability. He raised concerns about the facilitation of criminals and individuals involved in state-sponsored acts of violence. He questioned the accessibility of justice for ordinary citizens when such instances occur. He also referred to a previous incident on May 9 where a Judicial Complex was attacked and police faced petrol bomb assaults, highlighting a lack of appropriate consequences for such actions.
