In Peshawar, the court has halted the Election Commission’s notice directed at Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.
A two-member bench, comprising Justice SM Atiq Shah and Justice Shakeel Ahmed of the Peshawar High Court, presided over the petition filed by Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur against the Election Commission’s notice.
Represented by lawyers Syed Sikander Hayat Shah and Malik Sami Allah Advocate, the Chief Minister argued that the Election Commission overstepped its authority by summoning him to clarify returns from 2022/23, asserting that such scrutiny is beyond their purview.
He further contended that his 2024 assets declaration is already available on the Election Commission website and was thoroughly reviewed during nomination paper scrutiny by the Returning Officer. Consequently, the court suspended the Election Commission’s notice and summoned a response from the Commission for the next hearing scheduled on May 22.
