In the Accountability Court session, the legal representatives of Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari highlighted his presidential immunity in the NAB case. The proceedings focused on the Park Lane Reference involving President Zardari and other defendants.
During the session, Asif Zardari’s attorneys, Farooq H. Naik and Arshad Tabriz, contended that as the elected President of Pakistan, Zardari enjoys immunity from prosecution, thus the case against him cannot proceed further. When questioned by Accountability Court judge Nasir Javed Rana about the fate of the other defendants, the lawyers clarified that proceedings could continue against them.
The NAB prosecutor countered, stating that the case pertains to a private bank, and it needs to be determined whether the court has jurisdiction to try the case under current laws. Deputy Prosecutor Azhar Maqbool Shah presented arguments on other references, affirming to present similar points.
Subsequently, the court adjourned the hearing until April 17th.
