Islamabad: The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has swiftly prohibited the broadcast of the television drama ‘Hadasa’ on privately owned TV channels.
According to a statement released by Pemra on their official Twitter account, numerous complaints, including those from social media, prompted the decision to ban the drama due to its content. The ban was enacted immediately, utilizing the authority granted by Section 27 of the PEMRA Act. The matter has also been referred to the Committee Council of Complaints within the organization.
The statement further indicated that the Council of Complaints will make a determination regarding the drama’s content in accordance with PEMRA’s established rules and regulations. Until a decision is reached, the drama will remain prohibited from airing.
The drama ‘Hadasa’ is reportedly centered around an incident involving the abduction and gang rape of a woman on a motorway near Lahore in 2020, although the creators of the drama have refuted this claim. Hadiqa Kayani, the lead actress in the drama, has also been subjected to criticism.
