Deputy Chairman Senate Mirza Muhammad Afridi has proposed the formation of 9 new provinces including Karachi in the country.
Mirza Mohammad Afridi made this suggestion in an interview on Dawn News’ program ‘Dusra Rukh’ which will be aired today at 7 pm.
The Deputy Chairman Senate from the tribal district was elected as a member of the Senate as an independent candidate in 2018.
He also proposed to create provinces of Karachi, Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and Hazara district and also to divide Punjab and Balochistan into 3 and 3 provinces respectively.
The Deputy Chairman Senate said that look at Balochistan, how vast its area is, there should be three provinces in Balochistan and three separate provinces in Punjab.
He insisted on making Karachi a completely separate province, adding that FATA should be made a separate province and Hazara should also be made a province.
Mirza Muhammad Afridi said that the more provinces there are in Pakistan, the better the country will be.
In response to the objections of the People’s Party in response to the same demands from Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan in the past, Deputy Chairman Senate said that the 18th amendment has been approved and the National Finance Commission (NFC) award has also been decided. ? When new provinces are formed, the NFC award will also be distributed in the same way.
He explained that if the said provinces are formed, they will continue to receive their share of the budget under the NFC Award.
At one point during the interview, when he was asked whether the decision to merge FATA with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was taken hastily, Mirza Mohammad Afridi replied that we should have kept the promises.
The Deputy Chairman Senate expressed regret that the government has not fulfilled its promises made to the former FATA and the people there are still facing many problems.
He said that I also raised the issue of funds with Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and emphasized that the creation of new provinces will solve the problems faced by the country.
Mirza Muhammad Afridi’s statement on the creation of new provinces has come at a time when in March the senators of the Muslim League (N) presented two bills for the establishment of South Punjab and Hazara provinces.
The bill to create South Punjab Province was presented by Muslim League (N) Senator Rana Mahmoodul Hasan as a private member, while the bill to establish Hazara Province was presented by Muslim League (N) Senator Pir Sabir Shah.
The Senate Standing Committee on Law and Justice has approved two controversial constitutional amendment bills.
Apart from this, former Prime Minister and People’s Party Vice Chairman Yusuf Raza Gilani said last month that all the political parties of the country will be consulted to present the bill for the establishment of Saraiki Province in the assembly soon.
