Rawalpindi: The Punjab Highway Patrolling Police now holds the authority to issue driving licenses, as per a recent notification from the Inspector General (IG) Punjab. This notification grants the Traffic Police, both in Rawalpindi and throughout the entire Punjab province, along with the Punjab Highway Patrolling Police, the status of a Driving Licensing Authority. Consequently, they are now empowered to issue driving licenses within their designated areas of jurisdiction.
The Punjab Highway Patrolling Police, operating across the province, has been vested with the responsibility of enforcing traffic regulations within their respective regions. This includes the ability to issue traffic violation tickets to offenders. Furthermore, following formal approval, the Punjab Highway Patrolling Police has gained the additional capability of granting driving licenses.
In alignment with this development, IG Punjab Dakar Usman Anwar has issued an official notification specifying that, in accordance with Article 27 of the Police Order 2002, all Regional Officers and District Officers within the Punjab Highway Patrolling Police have been designated as Licensing Authorities. As such, they are now authorized to issue driver’s licenses in accordance with the Motor Vehicle Ordinance of 1965 and all relevant traffic laws, strictly within the geographical limits of their respective districts and regions.
