
A divisional panel led by Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Aamir Farooq, alongside Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri, has issued the preliminary ruling.
The decision was held in reserve until the culmination of arguments from the respondents, which took place a day before.
In its concise judgment, the IHC has ordered the release of the PTI chairman on bail from Attock Jail. The court noted that it will provide the rationale behind the suspension of the sentence in the comprehensive verdict to be issued later.
Legal Petition The PTI chairman contested the denial of his right to a defense by the trial court in the Toshakhana case within the Islamabad High Court.
The petitioner urged the high court to nullify the trial court’s order and reinstate his entitlement to present a defense in the case. Additionally, the PTI chairman requested swift consideration of his petition by the court.
Further Details: Toshakhana Case On August 5, the District and Sessions Court sentenced the PTI chairman to three years in prison in connection with the Toshakhana criminal case.
The court also levied a fine of Rs 100,000 on the convicted PTI leader and barred the former prime minister from holding public office for a span of five years.
In its judgment, the court affirmed that the accused had been found culpable of engaging in corrupt practices. As a result, the PTI chairman was handed a three-year prison term.
“He intentionally provided false information [regarding Toshakhana gifts] to the ECP and has been proven guilty of corrupt practices,” the court asserted.
Moreover, the court rendered the former prime minister ineligible to occupy public office for a duration of five years.
