A meeting of the Council of Common Interests is scheduled for today, chaired by the Prime Minister, to discuss the possibility of conducting the next general elections based on either the new or old census data.
The meeting will commence at 12 noon, and representatives from provincial governments, federal ministers, including Ahsan Iqbal, Khawaja Saad Rafiq, Naveed Qamar, the Law Minister, Attorney General, and other officials will be in attendance. Additionally, all four Chief Ministers will also participate.
During the meeting, the council will review the results of the census and its report. If the census data is approved, a notification regarding the same will be issued. However, it’s worth noting that if the new census is adopted, there might be a potential delay of three to four months in the upcoming general elections.
