Lahore experienced significant flooding in its low-lying areas due to a relentless downpour in the provincial capital. The heavy rain, which began last night and continued into the morning, led to water accumulation in various parts of the city, particularly affecting areas with lower elevation. In response, teams from WASA (Water and Sanitation Agency) and the district administration have been working diligently to address the drainage issues.
Continuous rainfall over several hours resulted in waterlogging in neighborhoods like Johar Town, Gulberg, and Garden Town. Additionally, areas such as Lakshmi Chowk, Gwalmandi, and Akbari Mandi had standing water, and rainwater even entered homes in Gulshan Ravi Rustam Park. Following the rainfall, the district administration and WASA teams were swiftly deployed to manage the situation on the ground.
Meanwhile, the meteorological department has forecasted intermittent rainfall throughout the day. According to their data, the highest recorded rainfall in Lahore was at Lakshmi Chowk, measuring 97 mm. Other notable rainfall measurements include 83 mm in Gulshan Ravi and 80 mm at Cordoba Chowk, with Johar Town receiving 67 mm of rainfall. The rain started late at night and continued intermittently during the day, leading to water accumulation on highways and streets.
In addition to the flooding, a tree fell near the Gulzar underpass, causing traffic disruptions.
Furthermore, due to the rain, electricity supply was disrupted from 100 feeders in the Lesko region. Additionally, 40 feeders were shut down in the Sheikhupura, Nankana, Qasor, and Okara areas, and 60 feeders were closed in Lahore, causing inconvenience for the residents.
