In a recent hearing presided over by Chief Justice Aamir Farooq of the Islamabad High Court, there were remarks made regarding the transfer of Imran Khan, the Chairman of PTI, from Attock Jail to Adiala Jail. During the proceedings, Chief Justice Aamir Farooq noted that the status of Imran Khan’s sentence had changed and pointed out that all under-trial prisoners from Islamabad are housed in Adiala Jail.
The Chief Justice questioned the reason behind keeping the PTI Chairman in Attock Jail instead of Adiala Jail, emphasizing that the original order had specified Adiala Jail in Tosha Khana. He even raised the possibility of Imran Khan being transferred to Rahim Yar Khan jail, prompting the Additional Attorney General to explain that the initial court order directed his placement in Attock Jail since he was there at the time of his arrest.
Chief Justice Aamir Farooq cited the law, stating that under-trial prisoners from Islamabad should be held in Adiala Jail and urged the authorities to transfer the PTI Chairman accordingly.
During the hearing, lawyer Sher Afzal Marwat advocate requested that Imran Khan, being a sportsman, should be provided with an exercise machine. In response, the Chief Justice noted that it had been reported that AB and C classes had been completed in the jail, and Imran Khan deserved better treatment in accordance with the jail rules. He stressed that there should be no infringement upon his rights.
The lawyer further requested the court to issue a written order for Imran Khan’s transfer from Attock Jail to Adiala Jail. In reply, Chief Justice Aamir Farooq assured that efforts would be made to issue a written transfer order to Adiala Jail on the same day.
