The District and Sessions Courts of Islamabad have deferred judgment on the request for acquittal by PTI founder Imran Khan, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Sheikh Rasheed, and other individuals implicated in cases stemming from the real freedom march.
The decision on the acquittal plea was reserved by Judicial Magistrate Malik Imran, slated for review on June 6. Former federal minister Sheikh Rasheed attended the court proceedings and submitted an acquittal petition.
Judge Malik Imran noted the submission of acquittal pleas by Sheikh Rasheed and other defendants, promising a decision following a thorough review of all pleas.
Co-defendants Ali Nawaz Awan and Sadaqat Abbasi were also present during the court session. PTI’s legal team, including Sardar Busy Advocate, Amna Ali, Rizwan Akhtar Awan, and Mirza Asim Advocate, appeared before the court.
During arguments, Sardar Busy Advocate emphasized that the acquittal petition was filed in February of the previous year and urged for arguments to be heard promptly.
Judge Malik Imran acknowledged the submission of charge sheets for Sadaqat Abbasi, Ali Nawaz Awan, and Sheikh Rashid.
Sardar Busy Advocate highlighted the absence of substantial evidence, such as CCTV footage, in the case registered under section 144.
Notable figures like Pervez Khattak, Asad Qaiser, Asad Umar, and Ali Amin Gandapur are also listed among the co-accused. The case, registered at the I-Nine police station in connection with the Azadi March, prompted the court to issue notices to all parties involved, adjourning the hearing until June 6.
Following deliberations on the arguments presented, the court postponed its decision on the plea for acquittal concerning the PTI founder and other co-defendants.
