Two demonstrators lost their lives when a vehicle plowed through an ongoing pro-Palestine sit-in in Islamabad. Additionally, three activists were injured as a vehicle ran over a rally organized by Jamaat-e-Islami in support of Palestine at Islamabad’s D Chowk.
As per the spokesperson of Jamaat-e-Islami Islamabad, an unidentified individual drove a car into the protest area where police were present, resulting in the tragic deaths of two individuals and injuries to others.
The police apprehended the driver and have taken the vehicle to Kohsar police station, yet the identity of the driver remains undisclosed. The incident occurred during the Save Gaza sit-in led by Jamaat-e-Islami Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan at D Chowk.
Senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan attributed responsibility for the violence to Shehbaz Sharif and the Islamabad Police. He called for the immediate arrest of those behind the attack on the peaceful sit-in, which had been ongoing for eight days. He demanded swift action against the police’s apparent inaction at the scene and urged for the registration of an FIR for the attack.
Highlighting that the sit-in was not politically motivated but aimed to draw attention to the plight of Palestine, Senator Mushtaq emphasized the need for accountability and justice.
The funeral prayers, led by Mushtaq Ahmed, were attended by a large number of citizens. The deceased Jamaat-e-Islami worker Roman was laid to rest at D Chowk.
