The Chief Election Commissioner has stated that the timetable for the upcoming elections will be revealed after the conclusion of the constituency delimitation process by December 14.
In accordance with the information provided, discussions are underway between the Election Commission and various political parties regarding the forthcoming general elections. Representatives from the Awami National Party and Balochistan Awami Party met with the Election Commission today.
During the meeting with the delegation, the Chief Election Commissioner emphasized that the delimitation process will be finalized by December 14. Additionally, there is a plan to expedite this delimitation period. Once the constituencies are demarcated, the Election Commission will promptly announce the election schedule.
The Awami National Party delegation emphasized that constitutional requirements dictate the elections must be held within 90 days. They urged for a timely election and expressed the view that the Election Commission should have engaged in consultations with political parties before initiating the constituency delineation process. They suggested that only adjustments within existing provincial seats are necessary, rather than creating new constituencies. The ANP further urged the Election Commission to promptly disclose the election date and schedule.
Regarding the Election Commission’s announcement, the Balochistan Awami Party endorsed the decision to reconfigure constituencies. The BAP Party delegation stressed the importance of transparent and fair constituencies, calling for the completion of elections within 90 days. They pointed out discrepancies in the new census data, particularly in the population figures for Balochistan.
The Chief Election Commissioner assured the political party delegations of his commitment to expedite the constituency delineation process. He reiterated that the Election Commission will guarantee transparent and lawful general elections across the nation as soon as the constituency delimitation is concluded, abiding by the constitution and legal norms.
